The Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), Australia's largest and most representative business organisation, along with Business SA has released a 'call to arms' for South Australian employers to expand workforce participation. ACCI and Business SA is urging business people to employ 'Outside the Box' when they next recruit and consider the benefits of employing mature aged job seekers.
Minister for Employment Participation, The Hon Kate Ellis MP launched the "Business Case for Recruiting and Retaining Mature Aged Workers" part of the broader ACCI Employ 'Outside the Box' initiative. "An ageing population and low employment participation means that industry needs to think laterally and long term when it comes to recruitment to meet ongoing skills and labour shortages.
"ACCI director of Employment, Education and Training, Jenny Lambert said. "Lifting labour force capacity is not all a question of government or government money. New approaches and business leadership from within the private sector is required."
'Employ Outside the Box' encourages employers to develop innovative strategies to attract and retain valued employees to bolster Australia's flagging participation rate. "Australia needs to increase participation amongst mature aged people, women with caring responsibilities, indigenous Australians, people with a disability, and from the unemployed including youth."
Minister Ellis joined the ACCI Employment, Education and Training committee for discussions on employment participation and how we can best utilise those groups in the workforce with low employment participation rates. These new ACCI publications will be made available to employers across the nation through ACCI's network of Chambers of Commerce and National Industry Associations.
